On being dumped

I met her when I was at a house in the alley

So cute and lively, she welcomed me freely

I am such a bore and a bashful dummy

Yet interested somehow she got into me

We played, I talked and read books to her

She laughed out loud at my darn silly humor

I was so enjoying her wonderful company

I forgot that I had errands to finish many

A young man walked in who was tall and slim

Promptly the girl got up and ran up to him

Plainly she adored so that handsome boy

Forgotten I was and dropped like a toy

I had been dumped, my readers, I realize

For the big brother - a 5-year-old's precious prize!
