On being dumped

I met her when I was at a house in the alley

So cute and lively, she welcomed me freely

I am such a bore and a bashful dummy

And yet somehow she got interested in me

We chatted and yapped and read stories together

She even laughed noisily at my darn silly humor

I was so enjoying her wonderful company

I forgot that I had errands to finish many

A young man walked in then tall and trim

The girl promptly got up and ran to him

She clearly adored so that handsome boy

I was all forgotten and dropped like a broken toy

I had properly been dumped, my readers, I realize

For an adorable brother - the 5-year-old's most precious prize!
